I use google maps pretty much all the time .. mainly out of necessity at work.

A couple of weeks ago it seems to have changed.
What used to happen, is quick press would clear the screen of all the google mess/clutter/adware/etc, and you'd have most of the screen with the maps you want to see. No menus, suggestions, and paraphenalia.
This is how i use it, and set it to satellite view and traffic layer, to show where the really slow traffic is(which is pretty much everywhere in Melb at the moment!)

But a couple of weeks ago, they changed something, where now the quick press only sets a dropped pin. Press and hold still sets a pin too.

Out work vehicles all have the same low tech, expensive system that runs an Android tablet type thing with comms ability.
All vehicles do the same thing, so it's not device specific.
So to confirm, I checked my galaxy phone .. same thing. Checked the Lenovo tablet .. same thing. Don't have touch screen on the desktop so can't compare, but I dare say it'll be the same.

Curious if anyone else has noticed this too, or if anyone actually uses GMaps ... and the same way I use it. (ie. I don't use navigation, just set the map area I need to see and watch for traffic flow).

A quick press of a key - or is only on touch screens? If a key, which key?

Screen.

That is, press and hold, used to set a pin.
Quick press of a blank area on the screen, used to remove all menus and display full screen of the map area.

If you quick pressed a feature of any type, it would show info about that feature. So you'd have to quick press on an area with no features to get the full screen mode.

I've googled the issue and nothing comes up .. either no one else has noticed this change, or no one uses full screen mode.

There were old threads from a few years ago with a similar problem, and no resolutions.

And yes, I have cleared caches and done all the usual stuff to try to reset google maps .. nothing.
