hi all,

curious to know peoples fuel economy of their 300tdi Defenders - around town, highway and off road if possible, age of engine and if you've had the engine tuned or rebuilt the pre/post figures would be appreciated.

I believe brand new they were around 10km's per Litre also referred to as 10 Litres per 100kms.

My ‘96 300Tdi with 300,000km and stock standard original motor still consistently gets 100km / 10 litres around town or open road. Off road too many variables.

Mine is the same year running factory size tyres but is always loaded ready for trips away. Mine is only a 1000kms away from 400,000kms mark but I get around 11ltrs/100kms as per speedo.

If u really want to be technical, the Odometer/speedo in the old defenders are generally not very accurate when u test them against a GPS, so it's probably slightly worst than 11ltrs/100kms

Mine is 1998 300Tdi 130, 270,000km motor not worked on, but has variable vane turbo, larger air cleaner, 2-3/4 inch exhaust with single free flowing muffler.
Standard tyres, with full built on chassis "camperhome".

Every day weight 3.5 ton (vehicle has GVM up grade).

Reside in rural area so very little city driving, so bitumen / gravel road use, I regularly get 12.5 km/ 100 litre.
Could be a bit higher as agree with a previous post re speedo acuracy.

My son has 1996 300tdi 130 dual cab tray back, 300,000 km, he has told me he gets roughly 11 km/ 100 litre.

Mine is a 96 manual Disco 1 weighing about 2.5 tonne. It runs 245/75/16 tyres.. It has an alisport upgraded intercooler and a VGT turbo. It has around 3,000 km since being rebuilt. I have also tweaked the injector pump a little bit. The max EG temp is around 630 degrees (reasonably mild tune). I use about 11 litres for 100 km.I generally drive at 100 - 105 km/h

Cheers,
Tom.
