I've already posted this in the D3/D4 forum, but as they don't have the TDV8 or the V8 petrol engines, I wonder if anyone can help.
The 3.0V6 diesel is sorted.

One of the joys of living in SA is that when you go to register an interstate vehicle, it needs to be checked by Motor Reg (I have no problem with this at all) but it also includes a physical check of the engine number vs the interstate registration paperwork.
Not sure if other states have this, but it is certainly here!
When I bought my Wrangler from Vic, it took 3 visits to motor reg before we eventually discovered the diesel Wranglers do not have an engine number!! The engine number on the dealer paperwork was generated from the chassis number, This was supported by a letter from Jeep. After a hell of a lot of talking, and calls to the dealer in Vic and Jeep, the inspector eventually capitulated and found a casting number on the block, and used that as an engine number.
When my wife brought her Volvo T70 from Victoria, it was rejected as they could not locate an engine number, and it had to go to an indy who photographed it after removing various bits, and sent the photos, with a stat dec, for motor reg to transfer the rego.
Likewise for my late D3 V6 petrol which came from NSW and had to go to an indy to remove bits, and get a photo of the engine number, stat dec, etc etc.
As the market for what I'm looking for is a little limited in SA, I will probably buy interstate, so I'm trying to find out now how easy it is to find the engine number on a V8 diesel and V8 petrol???
And as I might end up in RRS territory, I'm looking for the TDV8 and 5.0L petrol locations as well.
I don't mind using a bore scope/camera, but it would be helpful to know where to look when the time comes.
Obviously, if I buy local, all this is moot.

Land Rover Workshop Manuals > L322 Range Rover Service Procedures > IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS > Identification Number Locations (https://workshop-manuals.com/landrover/l322-b/identification_numbers/identification_number_locations/)

The link is to a manual which gives location information for earlier engines. Put it up as thought it may be of some assistance as this same information may be in a later manual

Aussie Jeepster - you probably meant to post this to the L320 Range Rover Sport section.

The TDV8 engine number location appears to be in the same spot as the TDV6.

You'll probably still need to take it to your Indy to get checked - it typically needs to be photographed as it won't be visible by the inspectors themselves. I had to do this for my 2008 vogue tdv8. I took mine to the kent town lr mob (sovereign) who were great.

I may be selling mine soon but haven't decided yet. It's in great condition with full service history and only 88,000km.
