I have had a compressor issue which is the normal worn out thing, so i purchased new barrel and piston plus new desiccant filter. Installed all new components and then things went awry compressor wouldn't pump up in time and then the system wouldn't blow down fast enough. Checked all piping and blowdown solenoid no problem found. Finally after checking everything in the system i dismantled the new desiccant filter. Found the inner disc and felt disc had become one in the air passage holes. It must have been on the shelf in storage a very long time, after dismantling the components i refitted the canister without the internal desiccant components. The system worked perfectly, so i reassembled the desiccant components after scraping off the outer surfaces of the felt pads and tested the vehicle. It faulted twice after that but then seemed to work properly once faults cleared and after the air system had reached full pressure. I believe there is still some form of restriction but will see how it runs from here on in.
I am just writing this to inform those on the forum you cant always trust new parts i removed the compressor over five times trying to find the fault but the fault was in a new part i had installed not the original system components.

A used hitachi i bought for a temp fix while i rebuilt mine had a kit put thru it by the PO, it faulted so the PO replaced it. I opened it up and found that the metal disc with holes in it that goes behind the beads was rusted closed. I have a sheet of perforated stainless steel so made a new disc, dried out the old beads in the oven and had it running good again.
Its back on the shelf ads a back up.
