Hi all,
My D3 sadly seems to have developed a bad leak at the top radiator hose just before (after?) the elbow that goes into the outlet fitting bolted in the V. The engine may be toast - it’s hard to start but seems to run OK but I can’t test dive it because it won’t hold coolant.
Looking online, it appears the hose is part of a much larger assembly, which includes the thermostat. It’s about a $1k part! Given I’m not even sure what’s happening with the car, I’d really like to know if this is the case and if there’s a cheaper alternative. $1k for a radiator hose seems insane.
EDIT - it is actually the elbow that has failed. Is this available as a spare part?
Cheers
Matt

Yes it’s a common failure part the plastic body that sits in the V. Very cheap and simple to replace but will destroy engine if not caught early.

Nothing to do with thermostat on LR versions.

No, it’s not the outlet body, it’s the barb on the hose. So far I’ve drawn blanks on just getting that part - seems crazy…

All one piece block but the barb separates off the block block.

There’s another plastic elbow for the inlet on the passenger side of the block much much harder to get to.

You might get out of trouble buying the 3.0 hose and removing the plastic elbow (I havent confirmed diameter but it would be close)

I just did both my housing and the elbow, elbow I got a 2nd hand one from my indie LR mechanic. Try a ring around of LR repairers that also stock 2nd hand parts and you may find one.
British offroad on sunny coast would be a good start.
Also consider replacing the connecting tube on drivers side of block, P/N 1316063 as it will most likely be brittle and ready to cark it as well. It is next on my list of jobs.
good luck

Yes the heat soak on that block fitting is immense where the other items are relatively isolated in comparison. That fitting is sitting into the iron block and the internal collar and oring will be nothing but crumbling cake when you remove it.
