Why oh why would the GPS suddnley stop talking to the lap top all ozi exp says is that its waiting for nmea data, all setings in gps are ok as is lap top I have just about had enough of this @#$^^&*(

How are you connecting the GPS to your laptop?

Give me a complete run-down of the connection. USB to Serial Cable?

yer it a usb to serial cable connection we thought it may have been the cable itself but checks out on the desk top and ozi seems to accept the port because when you change the port settings in ozi you get the com port error message and when its in the correct port you just get waiting for nmea data.

We have had no end of problems with this I'm begining to think its not worth the hassel

Pardon me for not saying somthing earlier: I've a laptop running XP2, Oziexplorer and a GPS 'mouse' via USB. I had similar problems starting up, and then decided that the setting for the type of data wasn't working too well. So I changed my data input to NMEA only in 'preferences' ( Forgive the slightly vague instruction, my laptop launched itself off the desk and is now RS) and make sure the GPS is already plugged in before starting Ozi. Select your map, and then it should accept data when you enable moving map controls.

Ok for any of you watching this thread, we;v sorted the problem out it wz the cable, went and brought genuine Magellan stuff and now works most of the time still have a bit of a problem now an again with the mouse jumping all over the place but as I've learned thats a problem with Microsoft so even when I'm lost I will still know wher I am now thanks for all the imput

Tony, with regard to the mouse, I've read (that is no personal experience)you can go into control panel, check out the mouse icon, and you should have two mouses (mice ??) when the GPS is connected via the USB. Disable the GPS/USB mouse in this area of the control panel. Somehow the PC thinks the GPS is a mouse and this is what causes the wacco mouse. Worth a try.

I am having a similar problem with trackranger and a gps mouse. Worked great when trialling it around town, then bugger me dead the morning we take off for a few days it just stops working. Need to track down why over the next few days. Possibly could be the usb connection. The guys at Advancetech have been great so far and will try their suggestions and if I can not get it to go want me to send back the gps mouse to be checked and or replaced. I reckon its more than likely the POS Toshiba (never ever buying a Toshiba again) only 2 1/2 years old 3rd HD, inverter, usb dodgy, battery not holding charge after only 1 year, modem u/s and now the screen has gone dark (apparently not the inverter and $1080 for a replacement screen).:firedevil:
I can still use it hooked up to an external monitor, so may keep in the car as the gps slave if it does not explode or something like that. Have felt like belting it against a wall several times. Everything happens just after warranty expires of course. Will be insisting on a min 3 year warranty on next one, maybe a Sony Vaio.
