I have started to strip down a 109"station wagon series 2a ready for restoration. I noted the gearbox number down - 170615236 which puzzled me as id did not have numericals.
Can anyone throw some light on this? its 1970 Australian made, the chassis number is unrecoverable.
The other odd thing is that it doesn't have an alpine window

Can't help with the gearbox number. The lack of alpine windows suggests that the roof has been damaged and replaced with a hardtop roof. As far as I am aware all wagons had alpine windows.
Alternatively, it is a hardtop that has been converted to a wagon.

G/B no. 1706..... belongs to a Series 1 1956 88, 109" or Station wagon.

Thanks for that
It doesn't look like a repair job ón the roof o must be a hardtop changeover

gunna have a real bad time at the other end of the process if you haven't got a chassis number.
