Hello. I split my 20yr old intercooler so I decided for the extra 200 I would invest in a Darkside intercooler.
Turns out it doesnt fit.
1 fouls the lower air con pipe.
2 does not mount to the radiator.
3 i think my boost hoses will be too short.
I suspect as I have a MY99 and the radiator is different to later models and it wont mount to the older style radiator. So, I could sell the intercooler at a loss, or modify it to fit, but what I think might be a better option is swap out my radiator for a newer version. But will it fit? I was initially led down the garden path with cross referencing intercoolers, so does anyone know if the later TD5 radiator fit the earlier TD5 defenders?
the air con lower pipe will foul on the intercooler as mine goes up 90 degrees for 3 inchs or so. But my system is redundant at the moment so I will get another pipe made to suit. Or maybe the later model will fit.
This might also apply to boost hoses.
Any insights available?
Thanks

Well, i pulled the condenser and darkside intercooler would fit if I massage the condenser mounts, but then the front mounts are short by 15mm or so.
Im guessing the way out is too modify the cooler by extending the mounts and the pipe connections...
or sell it and get a standard cooler.

Your early cooling pack / AC is not the same as the factory units fitted later on in the TD5 run.

Its you AC thats likely the cause of all your woes...

Yes. Oh well. I guess I better get the TIG out. I might have to massage the slam panel supports too.

On a side note, its a fabricated intercooler but looks good. I ordered saturday, DHL shipping (10 quid more then standard) and it arrived on Tuesday. @$670 Aus.

Manofaus, how'd you get on
I'm looking at the same intercooler. Did you manage to make it work?
Is the intercooler worthwhile?

Thanks,
