View Full Version : Hinging the rear door triangle on 130

I'm hoping to be able to set up a side-opening drawer in the rear seat area of the 130. I recall seeing images of conversions where the little triangular panel had been hinged to allow a drawer wider than the door opening. can't seem to find any images of this, but I'm wondering if anyone has done it, how they have latched it etc, to save me completely re-inventing the wheel.

i remember that image. there were 2 hinges on the vertical face of the triangle attaching to the rear body and a simple spring loaded latch that attached on the inside of the triangle and the pin into the floor. the seat box end was cut open and a slide out drawer inside the seat box. i was going to do similar but ended up removing my rear seats/box and fitting a 80L water tank under a false floor and fitting a fridge behind passenger seat. as a kid-less tourer, it works for me.

I've removed the rear seats too, it's a huge volume of space. I'd like to put a drawer across the full width, under a false floor. Added to the project list.

There was a bloke who had an aluminium fabrication workshop at Thornleigh or somewhere nearby. He built at least two, and possibly three 130 Defender campers that were absolute extravaganzas. Not to my taste, but the workmanship and clever ideas for getting stuff into nifty nooks was amazing. Someone might remember who he is. He might well have been the one who did that little door. He displayed his 130s at the LROC Sydney expo a few times. I bought a S/S header tank from him for my 130.

Thanks for the link, just the sort of thing I have in mind, perhaps not quite as deep. When I get a chance I'll measure up and see if it will make a wide enough opening for the specific items I want to store.

I believe this is the company you're thinking of.

Yep, That's it. I was a fair bit out thinking it was Thornleigh. And it wasn't him that did it either. Thanks.
