For one, worth checking out a price for 5 or 10 see how low he can go.

I think the T532 is way over the top though.
Mine's the middle of the range (516 from memory) & that's more than big enough for recovering Land Rovers.
Unless you plan on winching a fully laden LR & trailer up a cliff face;) .

I said I'd get stuck so you could practice using your new winch.

I got stuck & you didn't use your winch.
That's the last time I try to help out;) .

I checked it out today, WAY to big. Has a max rating of 5t. To big for me. They didn't have the Tirfors in stock and are awaiting a new shipment and doesn't know the new price structure. However he quoted me for a different brand made in Japan and assures that the quality is equal to the Tirfor's.

Brand is ALBA

model: A8, A16, A32

Pull kgs: 1250, 2500, 5000

Lift Kgs: 800, 1600, 3200

rope length: 20, 20, 20

rope diameter mm: 8.3, 11.3, 16.3

weight of winch: 6.4, 13.7, 23.7

Price with rope 550, 680, 1415

I have decided this is a futile excercise due to the lack of interest. Perhaps I'll just nick Ace's I know it hasn't been used yet, and if I break it it's cost me nothing:D

I was about to suggest you hold your fire Dobbo, 'cause I was in Repco today and they said they have a sale starting next week which includes a hand winch (and electric winches). Catalogue is not out yet so I don't have any specs but I think the hand winch is ~$330. ;)

So what model of Maxi-Trac did you end up with Ace? The ones they said were going on sale looked like the same box that yours came in.
(Couldn't be 500Kg surely? I've got a little cheapo hand winch in the garage that you could fit in a shoebox and that's 'rated' at 1000Kg.)

I was being a smart bottom Dave, mine pulls 2600kg i thing and lifts 1600kg's so i could lift 3 rocky's.

Went down to Repco to pick up their sale catledog today. They have winches listed but the prices don't seem to have changed since Ace bought his ....

E.g.
No-name 12V electric winch 9500lb 5.5hp/4.0kW motor w. remote controller and 4-way fairlead - $899.

Maxi-Trac Hand Winch kit (incl. storage bags and gloves) 2500kg hauling capacity, 20m of 11mm wire cable, AS1418.2 compliant - $349

The hand winch is tempting me...:)

We didnt get to test mine on the BBQ weekend cause scouses timing is crap but from the inspection i have given it it looks the goods for what you and i would use it for, ie not heavy duty frequent work then i reckon its worth the dollars. Matt

But 1600kg would(should) be the lift capacity as thats how they are rated ie T-516 my Brano is rated at 1600kg lift.

Nope. I checked it out today - maximum pulling capacity 1600Kg, not designed for lifting at all or so it says. Made in China, looks like the real thing but I'm not going to risk my Disco with it.;)

look up Nobles, they carry the Tirfor brand as well their own Nobles Rig-Mate creeper winch. Even if made in China I would expect it to be a good quality winch as Nobles are a known company of good reputation.
