I have the following fault code which I'm trying to resolve

RDCM-Rear Differential

P0658-11 - Actuator supply voltage A - circuit low - General electrical failure - circuit short to ground (AC)

Just got back from a Canning Stock Route trip which broke a brakes sensor cable (easy fix) so it maybe a cable/mud issue I'm looking at. I've searched the forum with no joy. Clearing the code always comes back. A search of the service manual mentions the TCM which is not accessable (to me at least). Are there some connectors/wires etc I should be checking on the ediff?

Yes there's an electrical connector above the actuator motor. Often LR's short to ground errors are instead broken wires when voltages are read on the device side of the break.

I can't get the connector off due to space restraints but all the wires look good so I'll have to leave that to a mechanic next service. The problem I "might" have is that every so often I hear a scuffing noise from the rear tyres going around a corner as though the diff was engaged. Of course the noise could be just a random one too. The question is, if the car sees a fault on the actuator what is the default position on the diff? Is it engaged or not. I would have thought not. The 4x4 info screen shows the diff as green (not engaged)
