Hello All,

Just wondering if anyone has bought one of the lower value end of the magnetic base drill range and how happy with the product were you?

A quick check of Trade Tools and Bunnings found their lower end range at the prices marked below:

920W 35mm Magnetic Drill HMPRO35 $1149
Full Boar 1200W 42mm Magnetic Drill $899

A check online in eBay found the following ...
VEVOR Magnetic Drill 1550W 2922lbf/13000N Portable Mag Drill Press 500RPM $262.99

I would like to buy a magnetic base drill for only occasional use. I simply cannot justify paying close to and more than $1000 for the amount of use the drill will get.

Can anyone recommended a capable magnetic base drill that ranges from the Vevor example up to $500? If so what machine in my suggested price range did you get and how well did it meet your usage needs?

Kind regards
Lionel

Unfortunately Lionel, cheap tools are exactly that. Maybe worth renting for occasional use.

I do recall someone on a metalwork forum bought the vevor one and it had a major design flaw that rendered it useless.

keep an eye out on the auction sites, the good ones never wear out.... also cash convertors sometimes have random things like that.

Personally I hate buying crap tooling, these days I will just bite the bullet (once I have justified it) another option might be a cordless one, I have run Milwaukee 18v magbase drills, when we first got one at work I was like "what a waste of time" within about an hour of running one it changed to "these are bloody amazing":Rolling: but again $$$$ will come into it, also good old Gumtree is worth checking out

cheers
