My 5 yo gerni that has barely been used is unlike Bowie and Mercury and isnt under pressure, if i turn it on without a water hose attached the pump will run.
As soon as i turn the water on it the pump wont work but water does pass through, our tap pressure is really good so not a lack of pressure and no blockages as water will pass through to the nozzle. I assume it will have some kind of pressure switch inside ?

Check that the mud wasps haven't concreted up some aperture in the works somewhere. Those pumps cut out when they reach a certain pressure as which occurs when you shut down the wand. There's probably a blockage causing the same outcome.
Don.

Don.No blockage as water passes through, it has to be electrical.

Going to open it up on the weekend, if i turn it on before turning on the tap it will run for about 10-20 seconds then stop and wont run again until i drain it of any water so conclude that it must be a faulty pressure sure or the like.

The pressure switch on our Karcher gerni has not been working properly for years,it will short cycle at times.

I just put up with it,have been too lazy to repair it.

Mine was doing the same thing, but after a couple of solid thwacks, with the heel of my palm, it seems OK. Mine is 240v, so I put it down to a loose connection.

A Land Rover Jeep perhaps.
