View Full Version : RRS Oil Leak - mechatronic sleeve

My RRS has started dropping a little oil but not when running, parked on the level or parked downhill - only when parked up hill and only about an hour after it has been parked.

Looks like gearbox oil. I haven't been able to get underneath and pull the covers off as it has been too wet. The rear gearbox X member has drops on it so I assume the oil is coming from the back of the gearbox. There is no oil blown back under the car so only leaking when stopped and when uphill.

My guess is that when the car has been parked for a while all the oil in the transmission and coolers runs back into the transmission sump and fills up the back of the sump when parked - the only real place it could leak is from the sump gasket or the mechatronic sleeve (my pick).

How hard is it to replace and seal the mechatronic sleeve and does it need the sump removed etc - any tricks for new players?

Thanks

Garry

Involves removing GB sump which is tedious and requires the smallest socket set and enormous patience and enormous oily mess.

After that it’s simple and cheap. Pull down the lock tab and pull out there’s videos on it.

But if you are there definitely drop the mechatronics plate and replace the 4 rubber sleeves above that it will make a big difference if never done previously. Videos of this also.

That would seem to be a really good video - it mentions the solenoids but does not replace them - my box has now done 230,000km but changes OK - I wonder if I should do them as well as a precaution.
