Just came across this while having my weekly browse in JustCars. Anybody know what this might be, specifically the body (I’m guessing that the Holden engine not original)? Something special designed and built by Land Rover for a particular purpose? Or just an imaginative sheet metal worker as a previous owner?
1950 LAND ROVER SERIES I UTILITY - JCFM5255388 - JUST CARS (https://www.justcars.com.au/cars-for-sale/1950-land-rover-series-i-utility/JCFM5255388)

Looks like a Heinz (57 different varieties).
Nicely finished but I'm not sure about the value if it's a bitza.

Thanks whitehillbilly, from that thread it looks as though there wasn’t any such thing as a Series 1 lightweight, which was the first thing that came to mind. Nice looking car anyways!

As Gromit says. Perhaps not exactly a "bitza", but let's be kind and say it is a "customised 80 inch" Series 1.
With that level of customisation, I suspect it would be very difficult to register in any state, but may have some value perhaps as a movie prop or an advertising display item. Probably worth a few thousand in parts.

Unfortunately, someone who doesn't know a lot about LR's will buy it. Looks more like moor like a Jeep. See it has a Holden motor wonder if it has used LR chassis & running gear. Remember when I worked as a mechanic, has a client with a Jensen Healey, whenever he bought it in for work, we had to work out what year & vehicle the part was off, order the parts & hope they were correct. Motor was Ford, Diff was ford Gear Box Austin & so on.

In Vic you might get a club permit for it as a 'street rod'.

From what can be seen it looks like a LR chassis & front axle (not sure about the rear). Front crossmember isn't std but probably a new one installed further forward to allow the Holden motor & radiator some room. The steering relay is possibly still in part of the original crossmember.
Looks like some pieces tacked on the edges of the bonnet and hinges on the inside, maybe to raise it slightly ??
I wonder if the body is off another vehicle, certainly looks well made.
It would be interesting to see a few more photos.

Yes, I think that would apply in any state. But no regular registration, and no heritage or historic.

My initial reaction was a S2 (A)? Recoilless Rifle vehicle (AKA Gun buggy) but certainly not sure about those front fenders, they look the business but they are not quite right somehow imho. Whatever it is it has been nicely done though but 40 grand!!! Gotta be dreaming shirley?
The spring loaded Bonnet clips could be bought anywhere & the screen fold own supports also could be bought anywhere or knocked up.
Both would be required if a Recoilless job.
No split screen though.????

Despite the 2/2a/3 bumper, I think it is a Series 1 80" chassis. The front dumbirons don't look right for a later model, and the wheelbase looks like 80". The low hanging fuel tank fits that as well.

OP asked if it was maybe a LR one off. Given the ad says "steel body" that seems rather unlikely.

A lot of work & $$$ to try & make an apple look like an orange, when you could just buy an orange that is actually an orange. [bighmmm]:Thump:

A Google image search throws up the picture below.
Land Rover: 1950 Series 1, APA Lightweight. Only 16 produced for MOD for use in Korea.
Maybe someone was trying to create something similar ??
Land Rover | A Military Photos & Video Website (https://www.militaryimages.net/media/land-rover.7175/)
The search threw up Lightweight's, an Alfa Romeo AR51, Fiat Campagnola......all 'similar' but different.

It could be that was what was being copied, possibly from memory. The differences are numerous and stark.
