View Full Version : That supposedly "green bus" technology

This is not "Alternate Energy" per se but an effort to make diesel buses "greener" and just blindly throwing money at it without it being sufficiently understood. I wonder if the failure and cost of this initiative will get as much coverage as the initial launch of the scheme. I am sure if it had been a private company spending this on untried technology someone would be out of a job.
This sentence caught my attention "Where do they test these things?"

Over here a big fuss with lots of fanfare heralded the purchase of a fleet of electric buses which cost around €500,000 each. Lots of photo shoots included our minister for transport who is also leader of the Green party. Anyway the buses have been sitting for about a year. Seems for charging new electricity substations need to be built at depots to handle the buses and there are planning issues to over come. A lot of public money was spent on these buses but their introduction and utilisation does not seem to have been considered before purchase.

Pretty typical here as well,if the Govt gets involved in anything,it generally ends up in a great big expensive mess.[bighmmm][biggrin]

Sure one mob prides itself in making more of a mess than the other,but that is a thread for elsewhere.[biggrin]

Sounds like a shocker. Poor planning and implementation and the current battery technology and trying to rush things is not a winner!

Suggested Electric yet no data? Website of Kinetic suggests to me its all Gouvernement Taxpayers funding these at several places in cities over Australia and our nice locals (NZ) ! Zero Emissions — Kinetic (https://www.wearekinetic.com/zero-emissions)

At least they seem to be covering some aspects of Charging! One QLD site has a far bit of Solar. My thought are that most charging will be in the Dark overnight so this is a bit of Greenwashing?

I did read after morning peak and until afternoon peak hours many buses are idle.


One of the site videos shows a CCS chargers connected to a bus - that can be fairly quick. Did you see the cars/buses drowned in South Korea Floods in an Underpass (RIP people killed) At least one of the buses trying to pretend to be a submarine was Electric. Tragic so not laughing at all about the deaths!

Try the Green trains?
