Just wondering who has successfully fitted a front centre seat to a 90/110 Defender that was not factory fitted with one? I have ordered the seat from John Craddock UK and have a lap belt coming too. I'm in Melbourne and looking for someone to help fit it for me. Also, does anyone have experience getting an extra seat legally registered?

If you buy the seat rails and fitting brackets it will be straight forward enough. I removed one from my daughter's 300 tdi. Just position it, mark the holes for the retaining bolts, remove drill and refit. Just make sure to notify your insurance company that you have an extra seat.

you will likely find the mount holes for both the centre seat and additional seat belt are already there.

Given your in Victoria, your first stop is Vicroads.

Just a moment... (https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/registration/modify-or-build-a-vehicle/modify-or-build-a-light-vehicle-or-trailer/removing-adding-and-replacing-seats)

I doubt adding a seat will, change it from a goods vehicle to a passenger vehicle but you will need to look at the percentage of your pay load that is taken up by passengers.

The additional seat will need to be signed off by a VASS engineer, you should talk to your engineer before you do anything.

If it has seat and seatbelt mounts it should be quite straightforward, but it will still cost, if you have other mods that should be engineered then get them all done at once.

If you want to put in a proper seatbelt I:E a lap sash belt then you need to have the upper belt mount engineered, you need to have this discussion with your engineer.

You should however be reported for cruel and inhumane behaviour if you actually make someone sit there! [emoji41]

Just a word of warning - if it is a wagon with the side seats in the back, the centre front seat makes it a ten seater - and a bus in NSW, which brings all sorts of issues.
