Before shot:
EezyAwn tent - 65kg, ARB rack - 35kg = 100kg (not including roof bars)

I will miss the rack, but there was just far too much weight up there... and even more when you actually have stuff IN the rack. I never really used it anyway - so I'll keep it for later on something.
Jenny and I decided to go the clamshell-type tent (pictured below, open) because it literally (and honestly) takes 5 seconds to deploy, and around 15 seconds to close it up. It gets over the job of having to bag-up the canvas type rooftop tents. Considering that we go up there to crash out until morning, nothing huge is required. The only problem was price. They are over $3,500, so I needed to sell my EeziAwns fast - and both of them to get a clamshell.
I sold one of them on Tuesday and as I was closing off the ad on ExplorOz I noticed the Columbus had just been advertised - at a hundred bucks less than I had just sold one of the EeziAwns!! We raced up to Lauriton (NSW mid coast near Port Macquarie) straight away before she was gone, and brought it back last night. A long day's drive, but worth it.
I had a Hannibal version, called the "Impi", organised through Henry (Greylandy). I was going to get one of his units once I had sold the two EeziAwns I had. He had organised a GREAT price for me, so I felt that I had let Henry down in not going through with the buy. I rang him this arvo and he understood what a good buy the new one I got was, and that it was too good to pass up. It's not quite as well designed as the Hannibal unit as it doesn't have the third door at the back, a rain hood over the entrance and it's not as strong. The Impi is an 80kg unit and has been built with super-thick shells.
I just want to thank Greylandy again. Next time I hear someone is looking for one I'll definitely send them his way.
