Hi All,
Using the Gap IID tool, can I lift my Disco MY14 to extended height, and if so, how do I do it?
Thanks
LuckyLes

go to height. set a pre-set that is +50. program it. now all your heights are roughly (though not precisely) +50mm. put the car into off-road height and it will be off road +50mm which is extended.

Just be aware if you get yourself into a situation where the car would normally go into extended height (if you bottom out of get stuck) it will fault and a good chance it'll drop you into normal or access height only until you clear faults and fix the height modes.

To be honest I used to play with it a bit but it started causing more problems than it solved - like faulting and lowering in the middle of a sandy river crossing for reasons above. The only time I'd program a higher height is if driving long stretches of soft sand where you need off road height but speeds up to and sometimes over 50kmph. Most other situations I've been stuck in, the car actually went into extended height of its own accord and got me out. almost.

In a sense it also lowers the articulation of the suspension. if the car is sitting generally higher with suspension extended - there is less travel left available for the suspension to get a wheel on the ground, get traction and get moving.

Hi Macadamia, Thanks for that info. I'll have a play. I was in a situation where I wanted to unhook my van, but the rear was in a gutter and I couldn't get enough height to get the jockey wheel in place.
Cheers
Les.

I have special programs for those situations. Rather than doing a bulk "up or down" offset I'll tilt the car forwards or backwards to get the towball higher or lower based on the cantilever from the rear axle.

It started out as putting in a "dragster mode" to make it look like my brothers ridiculous Prado with a GVM upgrade, and has turned out to be quite handy.

I'll have to have a play around, that makes a lot of sense.

After watching a couple with a medium sized van and a Hilux struggle getting the thing set up, I tilted the car, backed up under the (very low) towball, lifted it up and took the jockey wheel off. I saw the wife of the couple elbow the bloke in the ribs with a "Why can't ours do that?".

Mind you after listening to them, he needed that T-shirt that said "I apologize for everything I said while backing the van".

I pop the reversing camera loose on one side so I can see the towball, and put a 1/2" socket in the neck of the coupling of the van so I can just back it up and lift it up. The coupling locks down and the socket falls out when it's properly seated. My favourite party trick though is putting the bubble level on the drawbar and leveling the van with the remote from the car before putting the jockey wheel on and unhitching.

Last trip I ended up next to an acquaintance whom I hadn't seen since about 2018. He has a brand new 300 series, and we spent a couple of beers talking over the super automated 4WD features of the car. I closed with "Nice, they've almost caught up with the tech and features of a 20 year old Discovery. Still, the 400 series is probably only another 15 years away". It is a nice car though. Just a bit agricultural next to the 2008 D3.
