Turbo and Exhaust kit.

Thinking hard about just diving in and grabbing one of KLR’s turbo and exhaust kits for the old girl….can anyone provide any reviews on going this route? Is it worth the $5500K investment or just another system added for little real gain?

I have fitted plenty of the KLR turbo kits to customers Perenties.
I always recommend doing the clutch at the same time, otherwise i generally see them back later after the standard clutch has given up.

regardless of any nay-sayers that know all about boats, the KLR turbo kit is nutted out well, all the instructions are there, nothing is missed or left out, why because I guess they have fitted plenty of them and likely fitted the kit before they actually started to sell the kit.

unlike so many other accessories or add on that require hodge-bodge, missing steps, missing parts, a model is not covered, so on and so forth
its why **** like long range tanks, bullbars etc etc I simply dont fit.

P.S make no mistake I like a lot of turbo installs that members here have done over the years, there are some really switched on enthusiasts, which is half of what its all about.

Thanks Danza, appreciate the reply. Yeah I’ve a HD clutch sitting in the cupboard ready to go…I’ve thought of cobbling a Turbo set up and make it unique…but like the idea of a ready made kit and bolt up exhaust….will consult the treasury officials and base my decision on the response.

Yeah I’m hearing you. That’s why I asked the question myself, need to understand if it’s a ‘must’ or ‘nice’ to have mod. I have some maintenance/repair to do on the transfer case first up and might even stick a little bit of sound deadener around seat base and trans cover next….

I’ve had my Perentie since 2013, I think PS was second mod I made after getting it through NT rego hurdles. Since then it’s had a hardtop, defender doors and some ‘comfort’ conversions. It’s been my daily driver for most of last 10 years, so considering major mods have been slow…

I’ve had mine for 3 years, pwr steer plus a rear disc brake conversion. I currently have it on club rego but I’m seriously thinking of putting it back on full rego and using it as a daily. Other than the mountain range to get out of the Hunter Valley ( not really that big) I’m struggling to justify the $3700 for the turbo kit ( my mate owns an exhaust shop) so I don’t have to purchase KLR exhaust kit for it.

the only times I think I "need" power steering is in small carparks that require muscles in your **** to get it parked in or getting out. My Pa's 130 Defender due to its length is just about as difficult to park. Also offroad if doing a lot of twisty winding tight tracks at moderate speed it becomes tiresome at times.

I've done heaps of mods to make it more daily pleasant, just havent got to the turbo or PS as yet, normally because I get a kit in and end up using it on a customers Perentie.

I dont think a Perentie needs rear disc brakes and would only consider that as a ease of maintenance item for changing pads later.

Power steering was a sensible mod IMO, simple, cheap job and improves manoeuvrability especially in the bush. Agree with disc brake rear, really the brakes are good the way they are. I’d love a rear diff lock and probably has priority over a turbo mod…the wonderful thing is we have so many options to choose from!

I fitted the Ashcroft ATB front and rear, i love it, value for money works great.
on the front you need to upgrade to fine spline over the ye ole 10 spline, which wasnt a issue for me as i had snapped the course spline.
