View Full Version : Introduction of a recovery fee

As we all know there are repeat offenders when it comes to being recovered.
Perhaps the introduction of a recovery fee may stem those who are alittle to eager amongst us.
Similar to the rules of an army mess(Or atleast the ones I have been in).We had quiet a large wooden spoon which hung on the wall, the rules were quiet simple. Touch the spoon in anyway the company(those present) chipped in to fill it(generally 6-8 cans worth)You had to drink every drop not spilling any, failure to do so resulted in you buying those present a drink of their choice. Resulted in quiet a few hangovers for those present.:D
I wonder if the use of recovery gear will reduce amongst us if this rule is introduced:twisted:
Get stuck then you have to suffer the consequences failure to comply could be expensive depending on how many there are in the group.

I like it though I think I better start brewing my own and build a still
How would you grade it though, would a snatch or tow be less expensive as a more time consuming winching or shovelling excercise?
How man stubbies for each?

One drink per person. regardless. If people have to get out you pay the penalty.

But Yabbie, then we'd need a different kind of recovery vehicle (ambulance) for when your pancreas screams in agony or your blood turns to syrup.
Look at the upside - the use of recovery gear - especially a shovel for some road building - leads to a good cardiovascular workout and helps reduce your weight.
Maybe getting bogged should be what the doctor orders ;)
What we need is a GP and a physiotherapist to run 4WD trips as a rehab program, then we can get a medicare rebate on our fuel bills.

Perhaps I should have replaced the word "BEER" with the word "LATTE".

When i was working down in the riverina harvesting the rice when ever you go bogged you had to buy the person who pulled you out a bottle of rum, that got a tad espensive for me cause i was always the one who had to drive through the soggy crap to get out of the paddock and with a bin full of 12T of rice. I think a bottle of rum is a bit steep but i think we could introduce some sort of a fee. Will work out well cause now scouse has to supply all the grog every time we go off road. :D

nah, i dont drink rum and scouse would go broke. It should be 1 beer for up to an hour, for the second hour of the recovery process you have to chip in a carton for the recovery team and another carton for the third and so on. Matt

Yabbie could be on to something here. I you abide by the directions on the snatch straps the say to dispose of after around 5 - 10 snatches. Straps cost on average $50.00 - $100.00. Therefore a snatch could cost between $5 - $10 bucks a go. Why not get re-imbursed with alcohol.
I'd be broke in the first 30mins but imagine finding a Cruiser or Patrol stuck in a situation. Charge them the standard recovery fee, then a fee for your time, a surcharge for not driving a Land Rover in the first place, a fee for initiating undue stresses to your vehicle. Hire of your equipment, hire of your vehicle, insurance costs assoiciated with the recovery.
WHERE DO YOU END.
Just be a good samaritan, and use there straps.

I like the beer idea........... bottle of bourbon is better
Why not get re-imbursed with alcohol as well and too and also
don't forget the rules:
you're stuck = your recovery gear/snatch strap/tow strap.
works well with the usual crew I drive with........ no free rides for those too tight to buy a strap after the first couple of trips.
beer / bourbon would be a bonus though ...
I'd always recover the others ...................................because I drive a Land Rover :D :D

I do not mind helping someone out with recovery for nix, but a beer and a chat after is nice. The ones that annoy me are the ones that just jump back in their cars and rack off. Dont help pack up or a thanks or nothing. Had one a couple of years ago that launched straight back in their 4x4 and charged off up the beach without even a thanks. It was funny though on return they were bogged to the diffs, gave them the bird as we went past. :D

If you charge as much as the weekend courses you would be able to buy everyone on the trip a carton and still have fuel money to get home.
And dobbo i am not buying a pub with you mate, i have already made one business mistake that i am still paying for, not making a second. :D
