I have had a droning noise from the front diff (or PTU) which needs addressing. The LR independent have suggested replacing it with a reconditioned box. It's an expensive job at just under 4k fitted. Anyone have experience of this job and any thoughts on pricing? Is it worth a transmission specialist doing the job (not necessarily a LR specialist)

There are UK specialists who supply this part as well, supposedly better than they came from the factory. I will still need the LR indie or another garage to fit them. Is this worth considering? All said and done, not much difference when it comes to pricing.

I am based in Melbourne if that helps.

Thanks!

I bought mine in from uk because I couldn’t get one here at the time. Transfer box was only 250 pounds, I had to pay another 250 because I didn’t have an exchange box plus freight. Then it cost me $400 to have it fitted by a or specialist on the Gold Coast. I can hunt out the details if you want.
