Hi all.
Further to my post of 4th August, the problem noise in the previous video appears to be solved.
As part of a mid trip service at Sovereign Autos in Adelaide, the front drive shaft between the transmission and front transfer case was found to be worn at a joint at one end (see video). The drive shaft was replaced. All good now.
This information may help others if a similar problem comes up.
Cheers
Rod

Now that's interesting. I have a "tick" that I get under gentle deceleration/coast off throttle but still in gear. It's been there for years and not getting any worse. I wondered if it was the dual mass flywheel because it goes away when I put my foot on the clutch or knock it out of gear, but that's a similar possibility. Will have to do the maths on frequency vs vehicle speed.

I'll give it a wiggle next time I'm under the car.

The “tick” in our case has only occurred on the current trip over the last 8,000 k’s, but towing a fairly heavy van. It was not picked up in the previous service about 2,000 k’s before heading off. Our Disco has done plenty of towing on and offroad which may have contributed to the wear in the drive shaft.
The “tick” was infrequent but seemed to occur randomly under light throttle either towing or not. Beats me why it did not occur more consistently!
The service guys said they picked up movement in the drive shaft.
Hope this helps.
