Hello All,

Just wondering if there are any Zoom gurus out there?

My HP laptop defaults to the inbuilt speaker when I join a Zoom meeting. Despite my best efforts of either pairing into a blue-tooth head set or my set of six Logitech external speakers the default tinny low volume inbuilt computer speaker is the only one that works.

I have gone into Settings Sounds and clicked on the Logitech speakers. Or had the pairing button pressed on the blue-tooth head set. The system tries to connect with the headset and fails the connection.

I remember the good ole days where a headphone-style round plug inserted into the computer would automatically ditch everything else the computer was connected to. It was instant access to your desired sound source. No, a USB cable between the head set and the computer does not copy the old headphone plug overriding everything else.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could guide me through how I can override the inbuilt speaker default on Zoom.

Kind regards
Lionel

Hello All,

Just had a quick browse on eBay and found this 3.5 mm (previously referred to as 'round headphone plug') connected headset... ONIKUMA K19 RGB Wired Stereo Gaming Headset for PS4/PC/Xbox One Controller/Laptop.

Would this 3.5 mm plug override the Zoom's default of going to the laptop inbuilt computer?

I would have posted the direct link - however it is about a kilometre long.

Having a blue-tooth headset and six Logitech speakers that cannot be accessed is an area of significant annoyance to me. Especially when on 100% volume on the inbuilt speaker I still have issues hearing the audio on Zoom. Especially when someone has the sheer audacity drive their car along the road located in front of my house. Ability to hear the inbuilt speaker's audio ... zero,

You know a graphic description of my annoyance with Zoom and its default to the inbuilt speaker would go something like ... :wallbash: :toilet: :bat: :bat::bat: Zoom

Kind regards
Lionel

Hi,
Headphone sockets usually have an interrupt switch in them which disconnects the speaker as you insert the plug.
Not sure any more how many contacts are involved for
1. Headphones only
2. Headphones + Microphone
Cheers

Thank you austastar,

It is funny that I have to revert to 'old' technology to override blue-tooth and similar technological advances. Yes, I do identify as a semi-luddite. It is probably not the best technological stance to operate from. Oh I am not a technophobe. I just have issues with the placement of role of where a tool is manipulated by a human in the attempt to make life easier or more efficient. Not the alternative of a human being controlled by an unresponsive machine. If I want a machine to do something that is what I expect it to do ... who is controlling whom?

I do make considered independent attempts to resolve technological issues. If these concerted attempts fail then that is when the Luddite in me comes out ...

Try plugging in a set of phone type earbuds. If they work, the gaming headset will probably also work.

Hello All,

Has anyone noticed that lately any attempts to contact a techology based provider's 'Help' section links to a series of previously answered questions. Then after you realise that none of the example answers match your particular question, there is no email address of said organisation's 'helpcentre' provided on their 'help' page. For instance ... Zoom... See I did follow an independent track of seeking assistance,

:bat::bat::bat:

Then I decided to contact the AULRO brain's trust. [smilebigeye]

Kind regards

I haven't used Zoom since the height of Melbourne's lockdowns, but I seem to remember that Zoom needed to have AV settings altered in app, as it seemed to ignore system wide settings somehow. Memory's s little foggy on this though, and I no longer have Z.
