Hi People,
I've been absent for a while as the old girl is in semi retirement, mostly daily short trips to the beach with the dogs. However an oil leak has developed and become too embarrassing to ignore so asit's also time for an oil change thought I'd track it down.
It seemed to come from behind the spin on oil filter but now it off and I can see behind I can't see anything obvious. At 350k is there something likely to have popped, loosened of cracked that I can't see?
Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks,
Pete

Hi, i found out that the simplest way to track oil leaks which are not clearely visible on first sight is to use an oil leak detection dye

The screw on oil filter housing has a metal gasket, it is removable separate to the oil cooler housing, undo the 3 bolts that hold it on and change the gasket or use a light smear of three bond silicon on both sides of the existing metal gasket for a quick try while you order the proper gasket.

X2 looks like the filter was leaking as the wettest patch looks to be behind the thread.

Hi Rob! I did wonder about that but it didn't spin off that easily and the gasket looks fine. I'd love that to be the answer!
Hope you guys travelling well!

Oh I wish! I do wonder about just putting on the new filter and hoping for the best.
Thanks!

Thanks John. Sounds possible but I think I'll first just try the new filter and see how I go.
If it still leaks I will certainly try your suggestion.

Thanks. Have not heard of that. Will chase it up if the leak persists after a new filter.

Thanks,
Great suggestion.
YesterdayI gave up in disgust before I started smashing things up. Could not get the new filter to spin on. Done it so many times, always a bit of a bugger but this is driving me bonkers. Try again today......

Since I last wrote I have been trying to spin the filter on but could not get it started. Tried heaps of times, couldn't get it.
Today it just span on.

No sign of a leak yet so maybe you Brains were spot on that the leak was from the filter. Fingers Xd!

Thank you!
