Hey, I got a D90 too, not too far from you. Guildford actually.
Haven't seen your car arround, mine's dark blue.
I like the improved tank. How can I get one? How much are they?

As above, I would also like more info.
Did it come with a transfer pump? (looks low enough to use a balance tube to the original tank).
Can it be filled via a "Y" filler using the existing fill point?
The shot with the red jack in view shows a fitting in the bottom RH Corner of the tank, what is that?
Looks great!

i was waiting for one of you to reply!

the tank was a show special at $440 retail is $475. comes from opposite lock. i got mine from Gordan at alexandria OL. the front bracket need modding, nothing to hard. i was in contact with the manufacturer he was in the process of sending new correct front brackets to gordan.

trev, the low pipe is unfortunely the pick up for the transfer pump. im considering cutting it off and fitting a top feed pick up,, like a straw,,,
it comes with all the clamps hoses and SS tee pieces you need, also a transfer pump filler neck and locking cap... i threw the last 2 out cos i reckon it would look like crap!

i dont see why you couldnt fit a y pipe to fill from one point.

cheers phil

Its a shame about the pick up point. The left corner would have been a bit more protected. The price is ok, reasonable compared to what I have been quoted in the past. ($1000 fitted for a Def90 "special" tank). Is it baffled or strengthened to prevent tank flex?

ide say its baffeled, because you cant flex the large sides. dosent expand when presurised.

when im done i'll have a large chunk of alloy plate under it as extra protection.

Thanks for the website. Lots of nice stuff there. I have bookmarked it for future reference as I need 2 water tank filler lids and 1 for fuel too.

I am sitting down, so tell me, how much was it?

Reckon I'll be re-considering that thought then.

Thanks for the info anyway.

Thanks for the link. Much more in line with my budget.

Found a stainless steel diesel filler cap for $35:

I think that will do nicely.

Nice filler cap - alas I went for the 50mm stainless one from the boat shop.

By the way, did tank come with transfer pump?
If so what type/brand and what is the pump rate?
I've had trouble sourcing a decent one - currently using a small electric fuel pump from Repco but not happy with pump rate. Takes about 25mins to transfer 55 litres.

yep and its bloody slow!
ide say the pump ive got is the same as the repco one.
ive got a couple of holley blue fuel pumps somewhere, im sure they flowed 14l/min? will have to find one and test.

dose your system 'vent' enough air into the system? mine dosent, so when i undo the filler cap the pump kick up a notch. now to sorce a one way valve!

Ummm just to be dumb, why not plumb the breather on the new tank into the breather on the main tank with a T piece?

That way when you turn on the transfer pump as the fuel flows from the new tank to the old air will be getting pushed from the main tank to the second tank?

So far as I understand the tanks in the defenders are all sealed so in theory you shouldnt be getting any air venting into the system without the filler cap opened.

the vent for the main tank in my 90 is on the opposite side of the car. it will be easyer to get a one way valve than run 3m of hose.

I have connected my air vent into original via a 'T' piece - no problems.
I didn't mention earlier though that my tank is not a commercially sourced one and is fitted to a 110 not a 90. A friend designed the tank/s (55 litres for drivers side and 35 litres for passenger side) and I had a dozen or so made up for colleagues in the LROC (Sydney Branch).
Transfer pumps seem to either be very slow or very fast - something around 10 litres per minute would be nice.

yep,
the vent i could have used on the std tank is where the transfer pump sends the fuel to now.
im just gonna run a couppla loops in the sill tank vent line for now, till i find the right valve.

well i just picked my tank up from ol today and after a little trial fit it appears they still haven't got the front bracket right as the hole for mounting the tank to the bracket doesn't line up once bolted into place
but nothing a little mod won't fix

yep they are rather sloppy in their work had a few things fixed that where stuffed during manufacture

just have to make up a y piece filler now as i don't want to drill a hole in the body:(

go to an exhaust shop and get a hold of a y piece.
used in V8 exhaust systems and extractors.

just finished timing transfer of 20l from one jerry to the other using pumps. fuel pump supplied with kit took almost 20mins!!!!
holley red 4.5mins i think i'll use the holley:):)

yep its slow! i transfer mine as im driving. i was going to put i sender and gauge in but i decided against it.
its only 40l after all. when its got nothin to pump the supplied pump cavatates and can easly be heard, thats time to turn it off.

im thinking about making a simillar tank up for the passanger side, all be it a smaller capacity due to the battery box.
that way i could hold 130l total.

cheers phil
