Wishful thinking but can a rear crankshaft Oil be replaced with the engine in situ?

I have an annoying oil leak from the rear crankshaft seal on a 2 litre spread bore engine. I get a 20 cent piece sized puddle overnight, after a run. I was hoping to change it with the engine in place and the gearbox slid back to gain access. Is this possible or just plain wishful thinking.

I think it is possible - but in my view would be more difficult than removing the engine. Although this will depend on what facilities you have.

I agree with John, you will need to remove the flywheel & adaptor housing to do the job. I am not sure on your engine but the 1600 has a trough to catch the oil that gets past the scroll drain to drain the oil back to the sump that can block causing leaks when the trough overflows. I machined the scroll & fitted the later seal to my 1600 when I rebuilt my engine'
