Hi Guys
Just got back from a great avo trip with a bunch of WA AULROians.
No breakages, only one rescue in our party when my bro got himself cross axled in a tight spot.
Was great to see Gordon and his D3 rescue a couple of young blokes "stoners" or pot heads when they bogged their shorty 40 in a deep wet hole.To top it off 3 nissan hoons were cutting up,one dived into the deepest waterhole and got stuck:D :D :D :D ,they eventually self rescued thanks to a rear locker, the tide was at least 6" when they opened the doors:cool:    .
We had Gordon leading in his D3,DirtyDawg 110,Iggy Extreme,Mick 130,Matt 2A,Baz 80ser,90 V8 90(unfortunately retired early with electrical probs,WHAT A BEASTIE!!!!!),Taz D1 and myself D2.
I think we should be calling Gordon, FlashGordon,he surprised us and many onlookers on just how capable the D3 is with a madman at the wheel, sorry Gordon no insult intended there just arent many people willing to push their pride and joy like that. That group where you rescued Matt were astounded, being a group of poms there wasnt a bad word to be said. When you went up I heard the cheering and clapping 6 vehicles bak.Welldone.
Im happy with my suspension,it was very stiff but today has freed it up,drove really well on the way home, mostly gravel roads.
I will upload some pics later.

Great Pics Andrew and a good afternoon..Not looking forward to Cleaning the pig tomorrow though:(. I didn't use the video much at all yesterday. Wish I had taken it up that hill as Black betty showed what she had under her skirts with that 600mm air dance she did,I'm thinking maybe we should get out on a monthly basis as we nearly always have a decent turn out. I hope 90 has sorted out the red rocket and it was good to meet some new faces for me:)

Hi all,
Yup, great arvo out - had to detour past the car-wash on the way home, as there was no way SWMBO would have got in the car that night!!
I'm uploading some photos at the moment. The video I'll capture and edit later today. If it's any good I'll let you know and those that want copies on CD, I can post out.
Cheers,
Gordon

Nice pics. Gordon, can you post some pics of the sill protectors, their mounting points and material used. Also noted you're replaced the rear mudflaps with rubber - any pics of how you mounted them as well?
Thanks

Chris,
I'm just waiting for my compressor plate to be bent into shape (was supposed to be ready last Friday) and then I was going to pull it all apart and photo it while I put it back together again. I'll add some photos of the mud flaps too.
Cheers,
Gordon

Yeah OK, here's my story:
I thought it would be a good idea to pump the tyres up to road pressure to drive to the meet place. Being stoopid and rushed, and having Range Rover seats bolted in a 90 meaning I have 8 bolts to undo and a seat to remove to get to the battery, I plugged the compressor onto the tiny little charge light output of the alternator instead of the big battery charge output. This blew something up. The charge light now won't go out, but, with the battery cable disconnected I get 11v on idle. Being too rushed to check properly I assumed 11v at idle = 13v at running and everything was OK except a blown ignition light circuit. But clearly not, and everything was fine for a while until the battery flattened. For a strange reason I carry a spare (but completed disconnected) charged battery so I ran for home on that.
I have just replaced the regulator, and guess what - it still doesn't work. Tomorrow I'll change the rectifier.
Lessons I should have learnt:
When you pass 15 garages on the way, use their big compressors to blow up the tyres
be slightly more motivated to modify the seat so it clips in and out like I was going to do
be slightly more motivated to install a socket and plug for compressor / jump leads etc
be slightly more motivated to build an air box so the battery can go under the bonnet like I've been meaning to do
don't overrate my abilities as an electrician
don't think I know better than the warning light
I really should go and get a replacement alternator from the breakers with at least 100 amp output, cause this would probably be cheaper than replacing a regulator at $70 and a rectifier at $125.
But instead I plan to:
waste $70 on a regulator I don't need
waste $125 on a rectifier that probably isn't broken
fit them both, hurt myself and then go and get a replacement alternator
then burn my wiring out putting 100 amp through 65amp wiring
Still, it keeps me busy.
Thanks anyway and see you next time
