Hi guys,
I've been on the lookout for a 110 Defender (max budget 58K)
I have come across this one below and was wondering if any 110 owners could let me know their thought s please?

Assuming that you have had the necessary lobotomy to want to drive one....... My 130 at about the same mileage has had the following replaced (but it does lead a fairly hard life)
Intercooler replaced (upgraded)
Transfer case requires a rebuild (spare currently swapped in)
Shocks replaced with Konis
Steering pump leaks
Gearbox coupler regreased when the transfer case was out, didn't have much wear but was dry after that time

I'm not sure if a 2013 model would be on the LR electronic service record but it would be worthwhile getting the VIN and trying Land Rover (https://osh.landrover.com/?_gl=1*bmo9yc*_gcl_au*MTM5NDY2NjkwNy4xNjk4MjAwNjY5&_ga=2.154339582.716366517.1698200670-742397495.1698200669)

Good luck, at first glance it looks OK but bear in mind it will need more loving than some other brands

It looks clean and tidy enough from the pictures that are posted. Interesting bed set up.

With it living on the coast, check for corrosion, particularly the rear crossmember for rust. Also around the Alpine lights for paint bubbles which is evidence of the aluminium corroding. Other corrosion spots are around the windscreen, particularly the clamp housing arrangement at the bottom. There's a guy called Zagato on defender2.net who has posted an incredibly detailed rust prevention guide which is definitely worth a read.

Drive line clunks are par for the course but if really bad are usually the rear drive flanges/splines wearing as these are made from the metal equivalent of cheese. Aftermarket HD drive flanges can normally be swapped straight on because the actual splines on the driveshafts are usually fine.

Check the adaptor housing between the gearbox and transfer case for evidence of red dust from the drain hole at the bottom as this signifies that the adaptor shaft isn't lubed and is corroding/fretting the splines and needs replacing. Either get an aftermarket part or original, just ensure that the splines are greased/lubed.

Do the usual check of service history etc. As Tote says these are fairly maintenance intensive.

my views on defender ownership. They are a money pit. They require constant maintenance. They are unique to drive. If you accept those basic short comings and can get past the initial ownership stage (think of the pain and anguish you went through to give up alcohol or cigarettes or (insert vice here)) they will get under your skin and like herpes, will be with you for life. All the items that people are going to point out will fall generally into the 3 shortcomings that you have resolved to accept as part of defender ownership. In closing. Buy it. Drive it. Fall in love with it. Wave to other defender/perentie/Series owners.
