Rear window electrical ribbons.

After trying to repair my daughters rear high level brake light, I mentioned my problem to a fellow forum member. He enlightened me to the fact you can purchase a repair kit for this very problem. I then rang Repco and have ordered the repair kit. From what I am told this kit is a type of metallic paint that you can cover older styled rear window defogging wires or as in my case the rear window brake light ribbon. Older styled wiring was adhered to the window and can be repaired newer windows have the wires moulded internally in the glass. The rear brake light circuit on the 2011 Defender is also attached to the glass surface so I can hopefully repair it properly. Currently it is working but I made a rather crude repair using slithers of tin soldered to the terminals and touching the painted ribbon.

I hope this helps others, Land Rover dealers solution to the problem was to purchase a complete new rear window glass.

I had a wire like that out on my D2 rear window and I bought the same sort of if not exactly the same thing, but only got around to marking the offending wire at the shoulders in Texta on the glass, but never got around to the repair before I traded it in.
