Hello All,
Well the off the shelf chemist brand anaesthetic sore throat spray is not worth a tuppence for its effectiveness. Despite my paying a hell of a lot more than a tuppence for it too.
I have reverted back to a mixture a family friend once told me Stoney's Green Ginger Wine, some lemon juice and some honey. Zap in the microwave or in a saucepan until just below boiling. Gargle and spit out. Not sure how one would go with a roadside breath test though? The other option was a Port as the alcoholic content.
What heirloom sore throat remedies have been past down and still used as the preferred option for soothing a very sore throat. Jesus, I just sneezed again ... ouch! I will have to have another tipple. Somewhow me troat si getun sorerrr..
Kind regards
Lionel

A bit closer to home, Lionel. 25~50% Bundy Original and ginger beer. Increase volume of rum until the care factor disappears. Neither rum nor ginger beer cures the ailment, but combined, reduces the irritation. [bigwhistle]

My late, and great, grandfathers favourite - "Rum, lemon juice and honey; easy on the lemon juice and honey"!!

Hello All,
I am no stranger to sore throats. I had my tonsils taken out when I was five years old. At the time there were a father and son who were both surgeons. One was pro-removal and the other was pro-retention. Mum mentioned how I had most of the year off school with tonsillitis - something about the words 'poor little bugger' came into the conversation. Anyway, I was on soft foods after the operation ice-cream and custard or jelly. Lots of mash potato.
No toast or especially no crusts even on slices of bread. One of the domestics (Pink Lady?) got my order wrong and I got toasted crusts. A double bonus - beauty. I had the toast mid way to my mouth. Next thing a sister launched themselves across from the doorway fully prone with one arm extended out. Something about the toast and ripping stitches out of my throat was uttered along with some doubts about whether my mum and dad were married at the time of my birth and my being of smaller stature. Oh and some association about me a female sheep too ... not necessarily in that order - mind. Along with the utterance of 'Noooooooooo!"
Funny how some memories get etched into your mind. Heavily peppered mash potato takes me back to a time of that, and ice-cream and jelly when everyone else on the ward had to have proper food like Vegemite on toast for their breakfasts.
Kind regards
Lionel

Betadine Sore Throat Gargle. Or watered down normal betadine, though sometimes use hydrogen peroxide. Does similar in zapping bacteria.
Salt water - warm - between doses of the red stuff.
Gotta get at the cause of said sore throat...

Hello Superquag,
Yep, been having the very same two things at alternating intervals since Thursday night to knock the sore throat on its head. It provides relief for only about 15 minutes.
Best bit of sleep at 3:00 am this morning (Sunday) since Thursday night was right after having Lemsip with a teaspoon of honey. Oh and tissue paper plugs up each nostril after having a Fess Sinu-Cleanse nasal rinse. One bottle of the mixed up powder sachet per nostril. Multiple rinses throughout the day. I went to bed after taking the Betadine Sore Throat Gargle. Then tried the Lemsip and another round of Fess Sinu-Cleanse nasal rinse in the wee small hours as something different as I did not have any Stonies Green Ginger wine.
Kind regards
Lionel

Lionel, my dear, old Mum would have immediately recommended that you lean over a bowl of Vicks infused, hot water and a towel over your head, to deal with your sinuses.[biggrin]

Tried many. None work except for time. Oh, a hot toddy with either rum or whisky, or whiskey, lemon juice and paracetamol. This doesn't work either, but if taken in sufficient quantities can help you forget about your throat.
Now I no longer drink I'm dreading my next cold. [bigsad]

I gargle a bit of Whiskey or Whisky (depending on what's in the cupboard). Decent swig from the bottle, gargle and swallow. That lets the stomach acid take care of any nasties the gargle collected on the way past (that's my story and I'm sticking to it).
That particular drink generally has 100% more Alcohol than Listerine. If some is good, more must be better and if it burns it's doing good.

Similar to above, honey and OP Bundy microwaved together and lemon juice squeezed in. Sip on resulting mixture and gargle, I drink it but I guess you could spit it out if you wanted to.
I usually makes me feel better.

I can identify at least two problems you may face with this enquiry.

Ban her, send her back to where she caught it, until she no longer carries the dreaded lurgie.
Don't tell her I suggested this. :no2:

If it COVID be ready for it. Am just getting over it now. Not as sick as when I got it a few years ago but the recovery period post sickness has been more than a week. Lethargic and brain fog.
Spent 4 hours at the computer on last Friday and only wrote 2 paragraphs for my report that is due in today. Did the field work the week before. More productive today but still not yet back to where I was. My get out of jail is that the last person I need to speak to for information to complete the report has been on holiday and only back this week

I did suggest commissioning the camper trailer, which is down in the machinery shed, as an infirmary, but to no avail.
By the way, you may want to buy some shares in the Glen20 company.
Helen had a Pfizer or two, so I hope that the 'DNA Sequence' the company surreptitiously implanted in the vax doesn't affect her! [tonguewink]

C'mon, RL! I'm not spraying my wife!
I am spraying the door handles that she touches, plus cupboards, teacup handle, cutlery etc. Also, I reckon I might be starting to get a bit whiffy, as all my clean clothes are in the same room in which she is presently entombed and I'm not venturing in there.
