View Full Version : TD5 10P with Freelander bigends ?

Just pulled the big end shells from a 2000 TD5 Defender, they are stamped ERR6376. These seem to be Freelander part numbers. I cannot find a single reference that says these parts are suitable for a TD5. I am hoping someone here with more experience may know ?

The reason I am checking the big ends is even more of a mystery. Bolts on main bearing between #4 and #5, one snapped and one loose, another snapped bolt on the main between #3 and #4. Quite a few broken and fallen out bolts in stiffener. Have no idea of the cause, main journals look fine, #4 big end is ok but way more worn than #5, engine has plenty of power, but it had a noise that got to the point it could not be ignored (no surprise), so parked and pulled sump to check bottom end, bolt bits rolling everywhere.

Its been progressing slowly, 2000K's ago changed the clutch and main seal, found 3 fully undone stiffener bolts in the sump then, should have looked further but just put them back in. I suspect things were already loose or gone at that point.

All thoughts appreciated.
