Aside from the arm rests found on the inner side of the HSE captain chairs, is the base and upright back part of the front seats in the HSE and SE the same?
Or does the HSE have other advantages in comfort and/or adjustability?

SE in 2005 & 2006 had cloth seats then leather after that. All HSE were leather.
The SE are manual forward/aft, seat back angle adjustment and height adjustment. HSE are all electric for those.
There is an electric lumber support in the captain's chairs in the HSE that I believe the SE does not have. Hence I would say the seat back may be different. From sitting in a mate's SE I don't think the base is different but the frame allows the electric movement.
With the sheepskin covers on ours and the driving position etc., an 850km day from Coober Pedy to Adelaide seemed effortless and not tiring at all. HTH.

I don't value any of the HSE extras over my se, never needed power operated seats or armrest, outdated sat nav.
About the only extra that would be useful is heated seats but even then wouldn't get a lot of use.
The Po of my car ticked a lot of boxes to the tune of 87k.

Suffering from Duck's Disease means that the captain's chairs provide a height suitable armrest for left arm when touring - not so much of an issue around town. Mine doesn't have heated seats and they would be wasted in the tropics.
The rear air con is appreciated as most people would consider Darwin hot even in the middle of the Dry so as much cooling grunt as possible is nice.
Other than that I agree with you.

My SE has an electric front seat installed by the stealers under warranty as the original manual one kept sinking down after I adjusted it. I can't for the life of me think why anyone here would want heated seats.... :)

I retrofitted heated seats, in Perth.
Best upgrade i've made, even here. If it's hot, don't press the button, if it's cold, the direct heat is sooo much nicer than the warm air.

AlanH - I invite you to come to Tassie during winter and jump into the car in 1*C morning to get to work - I believe after this experience you'll know exactly why people here would want heated seats!

Mine's got heated seats, wish I'd remembered that in Cooma, last Easter. [bigsad]

Try getting out of bed earlier and putting your trousers on before getting in the car. :)
