fan pulley bearing

Hi all need a bit of advice I need to replace the bearing behind the fan pulley I think getting it out is no problem I was going to freezes the bearing in dry ice and heat the cover . Do you need to heat the whole cover I'm not talking glowing hot just warm and if the cover is warm and the bearing cold will the bearing just slide in on do I need to hit it with a rubber mallet thanks Phil.

we had no problem getting bearing back in without the need for freezing or heating anything.
Only thing I recall is the lack or room to tap it, as we didn't remove the radiator. 5 pound sledgy used side on worked, but was a slow process to begin with until it got driven in further and further.

I have a set of bearing cups and their lengths are roughly 60mm or so, and that didn't help the cause.

You need to freeze the bearing and heat the housing I have changed 35 bearings now and it’s the easiest and quickest way 30min to do it all

Timing Housing must be flogged then or used a bearing other than SKF

Thanks for the replies how warm does the housing have to be I will cool the bearing with dry ice could not get an SKF bearing from my bearing shop he sold me a PFI bearing said it is the same quality they are American made.

Dry ice would be fine, but so would a freezer if it's close to the car.

80-100 degrees is fine for the housing ( heat it evenly )

The important part is to get a C3 ( looser tolerance for high speed hot environment rated bearing. most in this size are C2 which aren't any good for this application )

Thanks Discovery the PFI bearing says C3 the code is 5206-2RS C3 the size is 65x65x30 so hoping it is the right one .

Dry ice is overkill but if you've got it might as well, I just left it in the freezer and it was fine
