Hi All,
After talking to a few guys at aces BBQ about a stockton beach trip i thought i would put up a post and see who is interested in coming along and try and arrange a date.
I am thinking we could meet at the servo at Lavis lane at 10am saturday, drive around the beach for the day, camp out on the beach then sunday head off the beach into the bush near medowie/wallaroo state forest, it should be all pretty tame, so no need for big lift/tyres etc, but there are also some fun parts to try if you are up to it :)
As for a date i am thinking either 26-27th of aug or leave it until till 16th-17th or 23-24th of sept.
If anyone wants to travel up on the friday you are welcome to stay at my place friday night, i am only 10 mins from the beach access.
So who would be up for it?
Mick.
--Just to tempt you i will leave you with a few pics we took last weekend out there :)

I am definately keen. I was checking a few dates with Scouse last few days... neither of us could match any w/e for sept.
I know it's a way off but how about 28-29 October, 11-12 November or 25-26 November?

Just talking to my brother, he knows someone who knows where thunderbolts cave is in the wallaroo state forest, we will try and get a location and might take a visit on the sunday :)
Thunderbolt was apparently a outlaw who lived around the area many years ago and apparently had a cave where he used to store all of his stolen money etc
It could be interesting if we can get some directions to it, we willl scout it out before we do the trip.

Ha ha! Scott, a test camper would be VERY nice! I'll take a platinum kimberley with all the options thanks! or better still, a Kimberley Karavan! ;) :D

on the weekend in question, i might be down at the penrith 4wd show... I didn't realise that's the same weekend.
I'll probably visit the show instead of the beach on the Saturday. I'd much rather spend the whole weekend at Stockton Beach but Sunday isn't good for me.

Just make sure it's not the weekend of the 18th/19th pleeeeease.
Why were you on the beach for a few hours ?
Small drive & you got stuck ??
cal415
18th August 2006, 11:43 PM
Hahahaha no... the disco cant get stuck on the beach... not like a rangie would :) :)
I took a mate out for a drive, trying to sell him on the idea of buying himself a 4wd - possibly a disco or rangie. It was another great day out on the beach, very little traffic, saw 2 other trucks out there, and the lagoon is still full up over the section we normally park on!

Gday Mick,
My mate will come along with his ford territory.... he's on the beach up there all the time, get's stuck from time to time because of clearance but the terry has heaps of power so should be alright for most part...... If we go off and do stuff he can't do, he'll probably go for a surf.
We'll have our 3 and 4 year old daughters.
So if first day is pretty tame, I'll also try and convince my wife to come along with our 6 month old daughter...
Second day, I'll try and get out to the forest... just depends on the family.
Hopefully my wife can take the terry and my mate will jump in with me for the day.
Cheers,
Scott

Hi Scott,
I will add him to the list, Sounds all good, with the sunday stuff i doubt the territory would do some of the tracks from the lack of clearance, but we have taken an X-Trail down alot of them!!
I have actualy recovered a few territories out on the dunes before, the traction control they have doesnt seem to like the beach much
Mick.

Hi guys if its the weekend of the 16th-17th i am definitely out, doesnt matter there is always next time.
I will be there on the 6th november for LROC driver training. But from then on the only weekend i have booked out is the weekend at bryces on the first weekend of december.
I reckon we could organise a watagans/stockton weekend some time over the xmas school hols maybe make it an extended thing or something, we can organise that closer to the time. Matt

Well its a shame you guys cant make it along, We will definetly have to organise another trip, When its a bit warmer, we could spend the full weekend on the beach and if anyone wants to do some surfing, swimming or fishing they will have there chance. maybe sometime towards the end of November or start of December?
And for those who are coming along on this trip, here are a few pics from an area in the wallaroo state forest, its an old quary with a large water crossing and some very nice rock faces to test your truck on, i did a few of these in the disco yesterday, some where to much for my truck though.
This is a video of Me and my mate Brad crossing the water
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBGrTbBnErE
Here are some pics of the quary, excuse the quality i took these with my phone.

Is that the quarry on nine mile rd a couple of kms in from the highway?
If it is, then it's steeper than it looks in the photos (they always are).
Coming down that rock face is exciting:eek:
And the 2 tracks leading to the top are quite challenging, especially the right hand one, although they both "look" a lot easier that they were a couple of years ago.

Yep thats the one :)
and yes much steeper then it looks in the pics, funnily enough i drove most of them in my disco a few months back with no lift and stock 18in road tyres,, since then it has gotten alot hard - more washed out, lots more fun! :)

Just a couple more pics of the bigger dunes - you can see why its such a popular 4wd spot - Looks like something you would expect to see in the middle of australia, well with out the ocean on one side :)
