Anyone done something similar?
If I remember correctly with the old van in QLD I needed a gas certificate as well as an inspection cert.. but in SA??
would it be easier to sell it unregistered?
How do I keep the personalized plate?

Easiest for you is to cancel the QLD rego, you own the personal plate, so retain possession.
Offer the van for sale with a new SA RWC, ready for the purchaser to register.

What is the process in S.A.
I had a look at the S.A. rego website, and couldn't find an answer.
In Victoria no RWC is need to transfer or register a trailer.
I would guess getting a QLD vehicle registered in the name of a South Australian would be difficult.
I have been involved in getting a NSW based car registered in the name of a Victorian licence holder, and RMS made it almost impossible.
I would think, leave it registered, with the understanding it will have the reg cancelled, until the sale is sorted, then cancel the QLD reg, and rereg in the new owners name.
Is the new bus SA or QLD or national heavy reg?

No RWC in S.A.
A vin/chassis number check will have to be done, I was informed a couple weeks ago that the chassis number must be STAMPED on the chassis, a chassis plate does not suffice as it can easily be moved from vehicle to vehicle.
That info was from the police who can do checks over here... But not everyone can use the police.
If it went to Regency, possibly a RWC may be needed, but I'm unaware of the process there.
Dealings between QLD and S.A. are not good on this front.
I recently purchased a vehicle from QLD.
The owner couldn't sign the vehicle over to me as it was due for a RWC.
S.A. won't issue a temp permit to bring a vehicle INTO the state, only to move a vehicle already in the state, or if starting from S.A. to another state.
QLD won't issue a permit unless you have a CRN, which of course I don't.....as I don't live in QLD... That's why I needed a permit.
It's perfect.
Mull that over whilst having a whisky tonight.

That's simply public servants doing what public servants do. They should have advised you to get a CRN. Anyone can get a CRN, a number that coincides with a licence number, if a Queensland resident.
No doubt they couldn't be bothered doing the extra paperwork.
