Some years ago I was at the house of a person who's son had died. The father was standing by the coffin and I went up to express my condolences. The father took both my hands in his, looked me in the eyes and said.
"You go home to your daughter and give her a big hug as she is special." (My daughter has special needs)
I was stunned. I could not fathom how a grief stricken parent could take their mind from their own tragedy to think of my daughter.
Never left my mind.

In my bitter and twisted experience, it’s common for grief stricken parents to empathise with everyone else’s grief also. As with everything there are rare exceptions.
