Hi All,
I need some help please!
My 2002 TD5 Defender 130 single cab, has engine immobilised and I can't seem to unlock.
Problem History - She broke down last year and local garage couldn't figure it out, so I brought a Nanocom unit to tackle it myself.
No faults were found, so I opened up the ECU unit, to clean and degrease, and cleaned all the electrical contacts in the ECU box, as it seemed like a good place to start. After replacing and replugging all in the ECU that I cleaned, the engine immobilised light came on dash and no start when turning key. I got the EKA code using Nannocom and have tried numerous times to enter it. After lots of key turning and opening and slamming of doors, it's still immobilised.
Background info - Ute does not have a fob, only a key entry.
Can any one suggest where to next, please?

Should it have a fob?
The AS10 /10AS is a very common failure point on them, leaving the car immobilized.
There should be a red light in the middle of the Speedo that indicates the cars current state, report what that does when opening choosing doors and trying to start it.
Will the engine crank?

Thanks for the reply Shack:
Not sure if it should have a Fob or not, it didn't come with one when I brought it second hand a few years ago (I wasn't sure if this was relevant or not).
I can confirm there is a red light in the middle of the speedo. It flashes on/off constantly, irrespective of the door opening and closing. It glows red when ignition is turned on.
Engine will not crank.

I thought it was only the early 1999 models that didnt have a fob.
What it sounds like to me is its back to its default settings where the imobiliser is looking for the handshake with the fob.
Back in the days of hell where I relied upon the Nanocom to actually function on a day to day basis I thought I remember where you could turn off the handshake function, it may have been listed as imob off.
Someone that still uses a working nanocom should be able to help

I've seen an 03 without a fob, but there are interesting questions raised in the absence of one.
So yes, I'm guessing there is a way to disable one being required.
From memory the changeable options for an AS10 are much less than for the VALEO BCU used in the D2.
To the OP:
Is it urgent that you get it going again?

As Daz suggested, I'd fire up the nanocom and see what the settings are in the AS10, you should be able to post pics of the screen so we can see on here.
I'm not particularly familiar with the AS10 but someone will be.

the extra security stuff that comes with the fob for remote central locking was an extra in australia IF your car didnt come with a fob for the central locking the EKA wont work.
Not this is a different situation to it came with a fob that the preivious owner lost/disabled before selling it on. It is however the same situation if you have an aftermarket central locking fitted.
good luck

Well she is mobilised!
I got into the AS10 with Nanocom, and played around with the setting there until the Red speedo light turned off and she cranked over.
I used this manual to decipher the setting, which helped a lot.
