Hi, having a spot of bother with my A/C.
(Not the first Defender owner to say that).
On the earlier Defender's the A/C thermostat control was ol skool, a turnable variable position switch with a track inside, I know virtually nothing about electrical switches, but I'm guessing some kind of variable resistance is involved.
The 02my and up went to A 3 position only switch, I've played with 3 different vehicles that have this setup, and none of them cool as good as a 300tdi.
The A/C cycles far too often, I'm pretty sure it's not pressure related.
There must be some kind of thermostat in the unit above the passengers feet.
The workshop manual is pretty vague, and doesn't have pics of the bits I'm thinking are a bit suspect.
It does say that there is a temp sensor in the evaporator to stop it freezing.
Has anyone ever had one fully apart?
Would it be possible to put a more variable switch with better control in somehow?
Actually, it would obviously be possible, but I'm wondering how practical.
