The key fob does not work. The light still flashes but nothing works, no lock, unlock or start the car. The circuit board looks ok, maybe a bit of corrosion on the board.
Any Ideas? or do I stump up the cash for new one. This one is 29/09/10
And how do I know what bit will have the connection to the car ecu to start it?

I believe you have a Nanocom? In the Valeo BCU menu, I think under "Inputs", there is a button marked RF Test. Takes a few seconds, and tells you if the key press has been detected. Go from there.

Well that was interesting. The RF input detected the key press. As it worked this morning with a new battery, and failed this arvo, I thought it was maybe losing charge through dodgy joint/corrosion.
Could the RF test detect a signal that is too weak to operate the locks? I'll try tomorrow with a fresh battery.
My spare, spare Valeo does not have the engine mobilser chip. Maybe I can swap that chip over.

If the key is detected try to reprogram the fob eventually save it in other slot which is unused cos there are 4 of them beside the one for SLS, there are cases when this helps Nanocom Evolution Key (Plip) Program for a Discovery 2 - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zgjgt2ilEgE)
that chip which is missing in the Rover fobs is only to communicate with the passive remobilisation exciter coil it has nothing to do with lock/unlock functions

This fob has been used since I had the car. Sept 2015. Can it lose its programming?

Can it lose its programming?
Yes it can, i've seen cases hence my advice

Mine has done it more than once, both keys. I have no idea why. You MUST follow the instructions faithfully or you are in for a frustrating time.

Well I'll be a drunk monkeys uncle. The key code is on a sticker on the chip?
I've given the fob a clean with isopropyl alcohol the Q tip got slightly dirty (thanks work)
I'll re program tonight.

Far easier than finding the barcode.
Remember what Fery said, program into a different slot. I don't know why that matters, but it does.

Had a similar problem last week or so. Does the red light on the dash stay on or flash, all I did to reset it was to hold the key in the lock to the right until the light went off on the dash. Started first crack of the key.
There was a posting on the board with some great information as to the cause and reason for such.

The Valeo BCU stuff has various ways of annoying. Mine will be fine for days, then get all sullen and refuse to answer the call of the fob, also for days. Sometimes opening it with the key fixes it, and sometimes not. Usually when it's raining, or my hands are full with shopping🤬. Nanocom always says Keypress detected when I check, which is a pity because before I fixed the diagnostic plug I bought another RF receiver. There's some issue in the BCU I guess. Not going down that rabbit hole.

I finally got the fob programmed and put the nice new back on it. The light kept flashing! I put on the old scratched back and no flashing.
Thanks to the input on how to fix this, I thought I was up for a new fob.

If your old fob is a Valeo, and your shiny new one an eBay special, it very likely won't fit.
Glad you got it sorted.

Yeah. Prolly not. Not when even spark plugs are often knock offs.
