Guys' with the latest spate of LPG Tank fires (all 2 of them) How do you stand with a self install and your Insurance policy, knowing quite well how those slippery baststitches try to weasle out of claims.
I was reading some posts here by different guys who have self installed and pondered where they stand in reference to a vehicle fire? Are they covered? what if it is second hand?

Unless you are a certified automotive gas fitter in Australia...
Self installs of LPG are illegal. LPG must be installed by aforementioned people and certified.
Sorry!!!

I did mine myself but did not connect pipes just the tanks and convertor.
Licenced gas fitters did the rest and gave me a stamp of approval. They checked everything I did and more and all was well I have a form that says so.
Insurance company notified of modification no problems.
I have done this on 2 Rangies and soon on a 3rd.
I think it depends on who you know not what you know.
The guys I used did not want to fit my underfloor tanks as it takes too long and were quite happy for me to do it all, except the pipe conections saved them some time, saved me heaps.

I havn't fitted to any of my cars as the ford already had it. Helped a friend install on a couple using second hand parts. Same deal as Brad. Finnal connection done by licensed fitter after inspection and no problems. Friend went overboard with his last install and really impressed the inspector with all his work and effort.
