D4 rear upper bushes

Giving the D4 210kms, a freshen up.
Replacing all suspension bushes.

Doing the rear, upper I noticed that there is NO circlip to hold the knuckle into the bearing hub.
It is just a push out job.
The passenger side was very easy to push back in, the drivers side goes in BY hand.
Is this right?

I've purchased FEBEST units which seem to be of good quality.

Did you do the actual bushes in the upper arm front and rear? How easy was that?

I've finally done all bushes and ball joints. Never again, I'm too old for that ****!

That being said, its just basic spanner wheilding. Would be reasonably easy with a hoist.

The tuff stuff is getting the bushes out and in.
Only a couple of the bushes can actually be pressed in/out. Most require some cutting, swearing etc.
I did have a large set of sleeves to play with, but some of the large ones can only pulled in one direction.

But for a total cost of about $600 I've replaced all bushes and joints. Would have cost in excess of $2,000 to replace all arms.

After a very well done wheel alignment, (sometimes difficult to get), the car now feels FANTASTIC. I can't believe how much nicer it feels, even though NONE of the bushes looked particularly worn.

Fantastic! Yes the bushes appear best strategy to drill out the rubber and cut through the shell to remove. To install the flared type bushes can you press on the rubber surface or do you need to adapt a tool to only press on the opposing gaps on each side directly to the shell?

Next project on my list also and have access to hoist and press.

Did you reuse the bolts or replace?

Reused all bolts/nuts. Absolutely no issues with them.

I just pressed on the rubber. Only one of the front, lower was troublesome. I should have used some heat on the arm before pushing.

That's a hint, some judicial use of heat can help with in/out.
