Just got my new comprehensive insurance quote - about $600 more than last year and guaranteed value was less than current market for low ks D4s. The rate included big discounts for length of membership so the full insurance quote was probably about $5,000. My employer also offers insurance and the best they could do, with staff discounts, was just under $4,000 and their non-staff rate was about $5000 so probably similar to my current insurer's full rate.

I have a Rating 1 as I haven't had an accident that was my fault since the 1980s - but my car does live on the street.

Are others having this issue with their D4s or is it also the case with other makes? Is there any insurer that is actually cheaper?

Personally I think that is an insane amount for insurance. For that cost I'd go 3rd party and put the extra into my own savings - either that or sell the car and find something cheaper[biggrin]

Where are you located?
I’m paying about $1200 per annum for my D4 with agreed value of around $30k with RACWA. I did recently get quotes and they were nearly double but nothing near the numbers you’re talking.

Melbourne and agreed value of $60k - $70k: RACV is quoting $2,800.

No idea at how they arrive at what they do. Me - RAC, D4 MY11, agreed value ~$34k, premium $804. But that is due for renewal in Jun24 so we will see what happens then.

Has a lot to do with where you live, where it’s parked, finance or not. Believe it or not premiums are generally cheaper when a car is under finance.

Guy yesterday was telling me of a massive increase he just received on his 200 series LC. Due to repair cost escalation was the explanation.

Give APIA a try if over 50 yo

Another brand,LC200,$1800,market value.RACQ.

As i have said before on here, our 10 yr old D4 was way more than the LC when it was new.

Just got an on-line quote with APIA - and it was $1000 less than the RACV one. (!!!!!)

What have peoples' experience with APIA been when making claims?

I thought Toyotas never needed repairs? I'm certainly being told that often enough...

Insurance repair costs are crash repairs, not mechanical repairs

RACWA premiums for our D4 2016 valued at 60K approx. were about $1350- $1450 from memory and I got just over a grand back when I sold it recently. I've been with them for many years so get top discounts for no claims ...... no claims on car insurance anyway for but part of the roof blew off last May and caused much internal damage as well so maybe premiums will shoot up for the house anyway. :)

I'm an RACV gold member so get a big discount for that, plus a multi-premium discount, plus no car insurance claims in living memory - and it's still over $2,500 at a $75k agreed value. Sounds like insurance is a lot cheaper in WA.

It's not because they're better drivers Arapiles, I can all assure you of that. :)

I 100% concur with this. I live within distant earshot of the Great Eastern Highway, and within MINUTES of a light shower, I am guaranteed to hear sirens. Often, someone will have put their invincible 4WD on it's roof.

In Vic I insure all my vehicles Third Party Property only. I'm in a rural situation so they're garaged about 1/2 k from the front gate. they're all around $800 each. So I'm covered if I damage another's property but if I destroy my own I cop it on the nose.

Also with RACWA, have an agreed value of $60k and just paid $1100 premium. I'd be asking how they can charge more for half the agreed value.

And in my case, it can't be because of theft rates because my neighbours do their car theft in nicer suburbs.

Must be nice neighbours you have if they go elsewhere to do their evil deeds. :)
