I chave had the Rhino bar fitted.
The installer is currently trying to wire in some driving lights for me as well as the Light Bar that came with the Bar.

His dilemma is knowing where to pick up the hi beam headlight signal and connect the CANBUS unit to.

The Supplier has been no use what so ever.
Just saying trial and error.
The installer is very aware that he can easily fry something major and that just tapping the Hibeam wire could trigger a unit shutdown via current draw overload.

So anyone know where/how to install can bus unit for driving lights.

cheers
Niall

Niall

I have booked in my Defender to have Rhino Bar fitted at 4x4 Extras (Ironman) in Kilmore Victoria.

Bar is coming in late June.

Was asking Adam about fitting lights he seemed to know what he was talking about & fitting Canbus unit.

He has done a number of Defenders & his Father is a Landrover afficionado so he seems to be aware of the sensitivies around this.

His conversation certainly made me feel comfortable about them doing the work fitting the bar and lights.

Perhaps he may be able to give you some advice.

Hope this helps

Cheers

If you have matrix lights and the CANM8 unit their instructions direct you to a location under the passenger seat to find the canbus wires.
I have the unit with the contactless CAN reader so you don't have to cut/solder the canbus wires. No chance of me messing up a critical system in the car.

If i was to fit auxiliary lights, the can-finder would be the go for me, no cutting wires etc.

remember the early defender L663 that the US reviewers bought? They had JLR US fit a bar and winch, whilst doing so, they accidentally chopped through a few wires in one of the looms and managed to brick the entire vehicle. Not taking that risk with a 145k+ vehicle.

Hi Nial,

Have you got a photo with your lights installed? Am waiting to get the Rhino bar and I want to put my GME antenna and some Stedi lights on the top mounting area

Regards

Angus

Sorry Angus haven't logged in for a while

Hope this helps, I used the centre holes to stay away from the Green Oval.
I think they would look better farther apart.

I ended up not bothering with the Rhino light Bar found a Road Vision one for half the price. 8mm or less to short, just put a washer each side.
The drivers are just a pair of Kings 7" I have borrowed from the Rainbird 2013 110.
They'll need upgrading, they don't really add much to the party.

They wired the repayment dogs as DRL, I'm going to change that, they r a bit bright and would prefer them switchable.

if you need a better photo just asked,
also added a lever thing so I can access the clutch.

I think I have attached the file correctly.
regards

N.

Thanks for the pic. I was going to mount 7" Stedi's for mine. My real question is - is there enough room to mount a UHF (say on the far left) and the driving lights as well? IF you get the chance could you do a close up of the mounting plate with the lights (and the holes)

Many thanks

Angus

Hi,

Was wondering how the CanBus install went and whether or not its working or didn't you go that route in the end?

Also, if you did, did you have to connect under the passenger seat or some other location (which was?)?

Thanks
