Rotary gear selector (TCS) problem ?

First time post after 6 years and 100k totally trouble free including 2*CSRs and many other WA/SA/NT bush trips in this great car (2014 Disco 4 TDV6)

Going into Cape Arid this weekend, the first sign of trouble was ‘Parking Aid not available’ on main screen (just after we hit the corrugations) and I noticed that transmission had gone into ‘limp mode’. So I stopped car .. thinking restart would clear error. Wrong, instead, the car would not start and now displayed message ‘Gearbox Not in Park’ .. I then noticed that transmission rotary knob stick up and was unable to turn it (to Park) which is why it would not start and also no lights to the P R N D S etc

Got out the IID .. only error I could not clear is

U201B-54 (2F) Control Module calibration data 2 – System programming failure – missing calibration


I had a hard copy of Marc Jones excellent post ‘8 speed shift lock solenoid problems’ so next morning followed the guide to (partially) open the TCS and move the solenoid and managed to release and rotate the knob back to P. No change.. car would still not start.. same errors , so called RAC who have recovered it to Esperance.

So, my inclination is to order OEM TCS (LR060016) and change it out myself

But..... reading through posts I cannot find exactly these problems and the IID error message has got me thinking it might be something else…

Anyone have an idea what it might be ? Thanks in advance.. !

Which module is reporting the U201B-54?

Usually this is only seen in the CJB regarding electric steering column calibration, nothing to do with transmission.

You need to check live or pending faults in TCM or GSM in this case.

Thanks for getting back

I think the module reporting that fault is BCM.. Body Control Module ? As I said , that was the only fault I could not CLEAR with the IID tool but I am probably not understanding what CLEAR actually means

So I should have said that there were other faults reported being....

U0101-00 (6C) Lost communication with transmission control module
U0103-00 (6C) Lost communication with gearshift module

You can ignore the U201B-54 then.

These two faults about lost comms to TCM & GSM are relevant, possibly power supply issues, wiring problem or a failed module/s but that’s going to need further investigation.

I have had the BCM-Body control Fault U201B-54 (2F) for years, as long as I have owned my Discovery. It never clears and doesn't seem to be a problem for the car. So it's interesting for me to see you have it and I wonder whether it has just appeared for you or whether it was there before your present issues.

Thanks' Mog60 , that's useful because it helps me narrow down to its being 'only' the TCS itself or connection between TCS and rest of car

So for the benefit of anyone else who has this problem... turns out that it was simply the power supply wire to the TCS that had shorted out (see photos) and blown the fuse.

Not sure why the wire was touching this sharp metal edge .. but all working now

So why didn't I check the fuse - first thing I did, BUT I used a multimeter to measure ohms across the pins without pulling the fuse. Apparently there can be a connection path back through the car

It was only back in Perth (thanks RAC) when I pulled the fuse to double check that I saw it was blown - lesson learned!

I have recently experienced a reoccurence of what seems to be an exact replication of your fault. First experience was after a run over the Oodnadatta track. Shift selector stuck in park and would not rise. D4 came home on truck. After coming off the truck in Melb, car worked fine. No fault found. 3 years later we stopped just outside Cunnamulla. Shift selector stuck up, not in park. Car would not start and was towed.. Replaced selector and car started but could not select drive. Car came home on truck and worked when it arrived at repair centre.. I am suspicious that this is not a selector fault but may be a short that does not blow a fuse.. I cannot see the pictures you have posted and would be grateful if you could re-post so I could check my D4 for the same condition.

I have now seen your photos. For some reason I could not view through my Android device. Looks like the wires are in close proximity to the neutral release lever.. I will be interested to look at my D4 wiring layout.
