It certainly sounds as if the problem has been identified - and it was a known issue, that a bulletin had previously been issued on. That would seem to put the onus more back on LATAM, but Boeing certainly did not need this sort of publicity.

People won't see a LATAM maintenance issue, they will see a poor design from Boeing. Even if Airbus uses the same seats.. I don't know they do, just making the point.

In no way excusing Boeing, but it is highly unlikely that they manufactured the seats. As with a multitude of other components, from the engines to the toilets, Boeing buys them in fom a specialist manufacturer.

I agree. But they must have signed off on the design, if in fact it wasn't done in house. It's just another pebble.....

The death of John Barnett won't be helping either. It's not a good look.
