View Full Version : Problems running & starting on hotter days

It all began when the alternator crapped itself at the beginning of a trip to southern QLD August last year. Got the alternator replaced quick smart here in Melbourne and got back on the road. Started to encounter problems within a few days, problems starting on hot days (let's say 34C or over) when the car was hot, eg when stopping for fuel. Managed to extricate oursleves by jump starting from spare battery, or it would just start.

Plenty of crank, it would just cut out after 3 seconds. Eventually it would start. Then broke down in Gympie. Land Rover dealer there checked and concluded the intake manifold removal and replacement may have caused the problem. Reset the computer and wished us luck getting back to Melbourne.

Now, a few months later, if it's hot, you'll get these little stutters, especially on hot days, and sometimes it won't start first crack so you hold your breath. There's an occasional whistle mostly in city driving at lower speeds, single tone, high pitched, more present under gentle acceleration, stops during braking.

My mechanic, a decent general mechanic but not a LR specialist showed me the following errors from his scanner. I'll rewrite them as they are a little hard to read:

ECM
P0108-00 Manifold Absolute Pressure/barometric Sensor High - Intermittent
P0661-00 Intake Manifold Tuning Valve Control - Circuit Low -Intermittent

Perhaps:
Intake manifold seals/gaskets?
Intake manifold sensors?
Intake manifold butterflies?

But these are just guesses, I am no mechanic!

Hi, your best bet for information is one of the UK forums, AULRO is a great place for Land Rover information, but since the FL 2 suffers from very few problems there is not a lot of activity on here. Also they were not a huge seller in OZ compared to the UK and Europe. so specialist information is hard to come by. Sorry not more help.
