LR4 Proximity key alarm

Hi guys,

Long time peeper, new poster! I've recently purchased a 2012 LR4, after a previous foray with a D3 ended with a timing belt blow out a few years back.

My D3 never had a proximity key so this is all new to me! I understand most of the principle of it, however if I walk up to the locked/alarmed car and open the drivers door it opens, but the alarm goes off....

I'm assuming it's user error and not designed to do that surely??

Does it just beep at you a couple of times or does the alarm sound for five minutes or until you lock the car again?

If it just beeps twice it is telling you something is wrong, probably just the handset batteries need replacing. But if the alarm is going off it will need a diagnostic tool to explain.

LRD414 you've half-answered my question. When I lock my newly acquired D4 the right rear door remains unlocked and can be opened, setting off the alarm. The culprit is, I suspect, the door lock actuator. Now the next half of my question, any tips on removing the door trim panel?

Rob, there’s a number of excellent videos on YouTube for this. Try PowerfulUK’s channel. I’ve used theirs a few times for front and rear door card removal. There’s also a few other little tips and tricks to getting the actuator out and back in.

I have had to replace both rear passenger door locks at different times. The first was done by JLR Stealer for about $500 and I did the next myself for about $40 plus a few hours with the help of
Land Rover Discovery 3 & 4 Rear Door Central Locking / Window Regulator Replacement - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5P2253jcFI) plus an online spare part purchase.

The good news is that the dodgy door lock can be locked manually before locking the car with the key FOB. It is a pain to have to do, but better than an insecure car.
