View Full Version : Late D2a Coolant hose setup

Hi folks

Had the heater coolant hose rub through on the engine lifting point on my TD5 (About a week after a full flush in typical fashion)

I have managed to bodge it with a pipe from an old Falcon for the time being but for the life of me I cannot find the part number for the hose I need.

As some may be aware late TD5's got an updated Fuel cooler (not the cylinder design) and as a result have a different cooling hose setup.

The hose I need comes from the heater core and runs down below the intake to a T piece, where 1 section goes to the overflow and another towards the radiator.

I have used my fine editing skills to highlight it in Red (and part of the T piece) in the image below.

Looks about right, just throws me off being described as going to fuel cooler when as far as I can tell, it doesn't (without going through about 4 other hoses first)

Next hurdle. Trying to rectify the setup in mine as it's all over the place.

The top Hose has been modified so it has no down pipe to the crossover.
There is also no thermostat.

I want to fix this up so best I can tell I need:

Thermostat PEM100990
Top Hose PEH101080
Hose, angled - Thermostat to coolant pipe - PEH101070
Hose Thermostat to Pipe late TD5 3A828206 on

But the 90 degree Elbow from the radiator to thermostat I am a bit confused on as all listings I can find are
Bottom Radiator Hose Discovery TD5 Up to VIN 3A828206 - PEH101120
But I cant find anything for after that VIN

Just a recommendation:

Get a lower temp thermostat. They originally come in (something like) 92°C versions, but you can get lower temp variants. The most common one is for a Frelander(maybe PEM500 .. some other three digit number after it) .. it opens at 82, and is more fully open earlier.
Makes a difference.

Forget the top hose. The bleeder is a stupid design, that is guaranteed to fail at some point in the near future.
There is a silicon hose kit availble somewhere, out there ... in the ether! ... where you get three separate silicon hoses to replace the 'octopus looking std type', but more importantly has a metal(maybe Aluminium-ish) T junction with a proper metal bolt, for the bleeder.
So, any time you(or mechanic) does a bleed on the coolant system, you don't have a nervous breakdown worrying that the bleeder will snap itself in half ... whilst you're having a smoko break!
