Annual test here. From new up to 10 years of age it is every two years but from 10 years of age it is every year.
Commercial vehicles get it done every year from new.
30 years of age vintage is every two years.
40 years of age are exempt once it is not used for commercial purposes.
My 1982 series 111 2.25 diesel is now exempt thankfully. Trying to get it to comply with the braking test on a machine was getting to be a nightmare.

Yep, it was due on that date this year but the earliest slot I could book was today. It is back dated to when it was originally due.

BradC was referring to his State. Here, in NSW, it’s no test for vehicles up to 5 years old, then annual testing.

If it was the Cops they prolly wouldn'trealise anything was wrong.....[bigrolf]

No tests here,thats why if you go to the shops,have a look at the tyres on some vehicles,they look like racing slicks.

It's not just the tyres, it's no brake lights sans one lone remaining LED in the high-mount. It's the jacked up Hilux with all windows and 30% of the windscreen covered with reflective insulation, belching smoke and big tyres that stick out past the guards. Not like a mirror that reflects the sun at a specific angle, but a diffuse mirror which puts the sun in your eyes over about 60 degrees of source angle. Don't even want to get into the ******* that put LEDs in their low beams that spew glare at all oncoming traffic...

Welcome to Perth. Modify your vehicle with gay abandon regarding any and all of the rules and get away with it provided you don't seriously injure someone.

Not just the west, Brad. Queensland has no shortage of, usually Hi Luxes, with ridiculously jacked up suspension, enormous body lift and uncovered, oversize tyres. More oft than not these cars are (almost) displaying P plates 75+% obscured by the back number plate and the front one laying horizontally, out of sight in the dash.
It is amusing watching these things tip-toing around round-abouts, lest they fall over.
Of course stupid modifications are not restricted to 4x4s, plenty of sedans with unbelievable amounts of camber so the undercarriage shaves the road.

The HWP in NSW are onto modded vehicles, often defecting vehicles that have been engineered and approved. That creates real issues for the owner’s. The cops know better than engineers.

Then the engineers have to defend their recent and not so recent approvals in court at significant expense in time and money to avoid prosecution.
